There are often opportunities to secure reductions in energy costs by more effective procurement. Energy should be at the lowest possible supply cost, and procurement can simply mean changing a supplier on completion of a desk based exercise.

Care is required in entering negotiations, and there are many pitfalls in terms of contractual obligations that may be imposed on the consumer, including when or how much energy is consumed. These restrictions often diminish the benefits to be derived from energy reduction projects that may be considered in the future.

The extent to which procurement opportunities are available depends upon the type of energy being procured, where the site is located, the magnitude of consumption, and the contractual conditions of the incumbent supplier.

Energy markets are constantly developing.
